I have a number of favorite tools, but recently this became my “go to” tool of choice. A few years ago, I had purchased a digital tape measure. I have used it dozens of times but never found it invaluable. I could always just use a regular tape measure.
UNTIL, I started putting crown molding around the top of my rooms. I used the digital tape measure for EVERY measurement. It goes from corner to corner EXACT every time. Since I was “coping” the corners, not only did the measurements have to be from corner to corner. They had to be from corner to the flat edge on the crown molding. I have no idea how a person would do it accurately without a digit measure. Also, I was working alone and some of the rooms are almost 16 feet wide. How in the heck would you HOLD A TAPE MEASURE!
It didn’t take me long to buy a second one. Why? The Bosch tool I had (the GLM 20) did an exact and perfect measurement EVERY TIME. But, my eyes aren’t what they used to be. I needed to hold the device just perfectly in the light to read the fractional dimensions. So, I ended up buying the next version, the Bosch GLM 50C. It is absolutely AMAZING!
The Bosch GLM50C Blaze has some other pretty amazing features. You can use to calculate the size or volume of a room automatically. It is also a digital level. But, the coolest feature is the ability to take a picture of an room or something you want to add measurements to with you phone or ipad. Then, using the free software, send the dimensions electronically directly from the device via bluetooth.
If your eyesight it better than mine, the Bosch GLM 20 Blaze is awesome as well, and cheaper.
I also have the Lexivon Digital Laser Tape Measure. It is a combo tape measure and digital measure. Although it seems to work well, I like the Bosch devices better. They seem easier to handle.
