If I could only have one tool when working with wiring, this would be the tool. I love it. I bought it to strip romex cable. (They call it a Romex stripper.) But to my surprise it does just about everything an basic electrician would do.
First and foremost, it strips Romex cable. It has cutting teeth that cut the covering on the Romex but not the wire underneath. Then, you use the great gripping plier like nose to pull off the Romes covering. It also strips #12 and #14 wire. It shears off the common bolts you see in electrical boxes. (6-32 and 8-32) Best of all, it has a feature that allows you to make the perfect wire loop for receptacles and switches.
ALTERNATIVE ELECTRICIAN’S TOOL – Gardner Bender makes a nice alternative to the SouthWire Tools Romex stripper. It does everything that the tool above does and is less expensive. The gripper teeth that pull off the Romex covering aren’t as well tooled but work OK.
