I didn’t even know these existed until I was trying to get a screw out of the wheel pants on my plane. I was trying to drill a small hole and use a conventional screw extractor when one of my former students walked by the hangar. He went to his tool box and handed me one of these. It worked flawlessly. You don’t need to...
Propane Torch
If you are like me, you never can find a striker when ready to light your propane torch. I love this torch with a built in starter!
9 Inch Saw Blade – Demo Demon
I have gone through dozens of these blades during construction. They are tough and do the job quickly. You won’t end up with a mice edge, but if you are ripping out floor, ceiling, or walls, these will do the trick. I have changed my destruction techniques over time. I used to use a sledge hammer, giant crow bar, and brute force. I ended up...
Tongue and Groove Cutter
This is a nifty groove cutter for your router. I am installing tongue and groove flooring and sometimes I need to cut the sheet before connecting another sheet. This tool allows me to put a tongue or groove anywhere I want it.
WamBam Fence Post
Ok, I know this isn’t a tool but it is an amazingly simple way of putting in a perfectly level fence post. Or, in my case, a simple way of putting in a new post for my mailbox. The old mailbox was sitting on a metal pole that was just barely holding it up. When the wind blew, the mailbox would weather-vain around and face...
Duct Outlet Collar
This is the type of collar I use when connecting to an existing duct. They are simple to use. Cut out the correct size hole, then bend over every other tab. Put the collar up to the duct. The unbent tabs will fit into the hole. Reach through the collar and bend them over. It holds nice and tight. I have always used duct tape,...
Weed Burner
This tool is a must for every “Tool Time” builder. My sister has a small one of these she uses for “cooking” weeds. I have used this tool for weeds, ice, snow, and starting fires. It puts out an awesome flame. My neighbor up at my lake house was trying to get a fire started for a winter hot-dog roast. I walked over with my...
Dewalt 1/2 Inch Hammer Drill
I bought a large hammer drill to drill some large holes in thick concrete. But, the large drill must weigh 40 pounds. This cordless hammer drill is great for drilling into cement and brick. AND it is a great regular drill too. It is my go-to drill for almost every project. It has handle grip and a ton of torque. GREAT DRILL!
Sheet Metal Hole Cutter
I needed to cut a round hole in my return air duct. When I read about these hole cutters I was very skeptical. But, when I used it I was very impressed. I drilled the pilot hole. Set it to the radius I needed and went at it. It cut through the sheet metal like butter. If you are cutting large holes in sheet metal,...
These units are really slick Again, I researched multiple dackdraft protectors and these rated the best. They work perfectly. They open with just a small airflow and snap shut to allow no air to come back in. Very well made.
About me
Although I spent most of my life as a classroom teacher, I have always been interested in the latest tools, gadgets, and gizmos. From a young age, I roamed the aisles of my dad’s True Value Hardware store playing with the tools and gadgets. I would bring home the defective power tools, tear them apart, try to figure out how they worked, and attempt getting them working again. (I ended up buying the hardware store after my dad retired.)
On this site, I plan on sharing some of the COOLEST DIY TOOLS I can find. And… let you know what I think of them.
